Miami Attractions
Miami is probably the most well known city in Florida and as such is the home of a
wide variety of attractions. In fact, there's so much to see and do here in Miami that one visit might not be enough!
We'd like to help you make the most of your visit to Miami so we've made a list of some of the most popular attractions and activities to try based on our experience of the city below.
Top Things To See And Do In Miami
Here are some of the most popular attractions and activities in Miami:
American Airlines Arena
You simply can't leave Miami without visiting the home of one of the most popular basketball teams in the US. The American Airlines Arena has a capacity of around 20,000 seats and it's the home of the renowned Miami Heat. When basketball isn't being played, the arena is also used for concerts or other major events. There's plenty of parking spaces near to the arena. If you're in town when the Miami Heat are playing take our advice and buy a ticket; there's nothing quite like a live basketball game. Drinks, snacks and all kinds of merchandise are available for purchase to complete the experience.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
The Vizcaya museum and gardens date back to 1914. The gardens occupy more space than the museum building and they're considered to be one of the best attractions in Miami, especially for those interested in the history of the city. With over 200,000 visitors every year, the gardens can get quite overcrowded especially during weekends. The museum itself is also a great place to relax and admire artifacts, monuments and artwork. The gardens are open to the public from Wednesday to Monday between 8am and 6pm. We recommend you allow at least 2-3 hours to explore the Vizcaya museum and gardens because you will have a lot of things to see.
Miami Zoo
The Miami Zoo is amongst the largest zoos in the world; it is spread over an area of more than 1000 acres. Here you'll have the chance to admire some incredible animals like lions, tigers, the Komodo dragon, black bears, giraffes, hippos, elephants and alligators from the Everglades. Overall there are more than 2,000 animals in the zoo from about 500 different species. If you don't wake up early enough you might not have the opportunity to check out every part of the zoo as it truly is vast. The ticket price for an adult is approx $15. The zoo is open everyday from 10am to 5pm but the entrance gates close at 4pm.
MetroMover
The MetroMover offers a great way to explore Miami. It is basically a train which travels above the road network. It stops at about 20 different train stations located in some of the most important parts of the city. To ride the entire track will only take about an hour. MetroMover is very safe and clean because a lot of the locals prefer to travel by cab or car. The MetroMover operates daily between 6am and 11pm and the best thing about it is that it's free for everyone.
Florida Grand Opera
Florida Grand Opera is an American institution which operates two theatre and opera buildings. It is the perfect opportunity to admire some of the most talented artists in Miami. Theatre, plays, concerts and other events are hosted at the Florida Grand Opera. For the full schedule it is a good idea to check out the official website. There's also a great restaurant inside the main opera building where you can taste some local cuisine. Ticket prices are variable depending upon the performance. There were a few free entry events last year so it is always worth keeping your eyes open for anything similar.
